For the second consecutive year Baptist Health Care received The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for our stroke program.
Why is this important to employees, patients, etc.?
Baptist Health Care provides world class service, quality care and patient safety to those who come to us for stroke care.
To elevate the level of care patients receive, Baptist Health Care voluntarily pursues regular comprehensive, independent evaluations by The Joint Commission. These evaluations provide opportunities to enhance the safety and quality of care we provide. The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of approval is awarded only to organizations that are found to meet or exceed its stringent standards.
The Joint Commission is recognized nationwide for inspecting quality and certifying organizations that are committed to meeting its performance standards. The not for profit organization accredits and certifies more that 15,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States.
The standards of performance charge Baptist Health Care with maintaining ongoing community education to help people recognize the signs of stroke. Early detection is key to receiving treatments that can lead to recovery. We provide learning opportunities about the symptoms and treatment of stroke through health expos, support group meetings and a variety of special programs. The community is invited to take advantage of free health care screenings at these events.
Lew Doman’s family believes they witnessed a miracle. As they watched, Lew’s drooping face returned to normal and the slackness on the left side of his body gradually went away.
Lew had suffered a stroke. Within 20 minutes from the onset of his symptoms, he was at Baptist Hospital’s Primary Stroke Center. Baptist’s comprehensive system for rapid diagnosis and treatment means neurologists are available at all times, brain imaging scans can be provided at any hour and clot busting medications are used when appropriate.
While Lew’s family prayed, neurologist Dr. Daniel Ross provided rapid response and expert treatment, which included administration of tPA, one of the newest and most promising treatments for strokes caused by blockages.
Lew’s loved ones call his full recovery a miracle. We call it good medicine. Just another reason why You’ll love the way Baptist Cares for You.
